About me

Juul Henkens

With curiosity and enthusiasm, I followed the path from practice to theory. Research appeared to be the place where I could ask all my questions. Currently, I am working on my Ph.D. project at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI-KNAW) where I study the effects of residential mobility in adolescence and mobile lifestyles/digital nomadism in adulthood on people’s mental well-being.

In 2008, I started my studies at the dance academy, with a bachelor’s in dance education. After three years of teaching dance to all age groups, I made the move to Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, with a master’s in Youth Studies at Utrecht University. I completed my second master’s degree with the research master Development and Socialization of Childhood and Adolescence at Utrecht University. Next to my passion for research, I teach hot-power yoga and I dance, surf, hike, and climb to fulfill my energetic side.

The MYMOVE Project

I am part of the MYMOVE project team working at NIDI (Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute). This team of researchers studies residential mobility in childhood from multiple disciplines, including demography, sociology, psychology, and geography. The main objective of the MYMOVE project is to develop a better understanding of the relationship between residential mobility in childhood and later life chances as defined by demographic family life choices, health, and well-being.

MYMOVE is funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant (Grant Agreement ID: 819298), the principal investigator is Prof. Helga de Valk.
